I have previously spoken about how a virtual assistant can save you money, I have given two examples of what a virtual assistant can do (presentation assistance and travel planning), however I will now share with you the number one thing a virtual assistant can save you, and that is time.

Time is precious

Time is such a precious thing and it is something which we must utilise well, because once it is gone then we do not get it back.

How many times have you woken up, determined to get everything on your to do list done, to then find yourself getting to lunch time or the end of the day and realising that you haven’t got as much done as you wanted?

Maybe you lost track of time, maybe you procrastinated, or maybe something came up which you had to prioritise. There are so many reasons why we run out of time and struggle to get everything we want done.

The downside to this is, things get pushed back, things get delayed, things start preventing you from completing other things, before you know it you are backlogged, overwhelmed, with a to do list that is getting longer not shorter.

So, what can you do?

How to save time

The key to saving time is by becoming more organised, you can start to do this by

Monitoring you time – initially you may not necessarily realise how much time you spend doing certain tasks or how much time you procrastinate, if you start to take notice and pay attention to how much time you spend doing certain things you may be able to start identifying areas where you can make up time or use time more wisely

Prioritise tasks – make a list of everything you have to do (this include one off things, regular things, meetings, phone calls, EVERYTHING) there will be some things that will need doing now and some things that can wait, tackle the things that need doing now first, this way you will not miss something essential and you can keep on top of deadlines

Creating a to do list – to do lists are essential, you should start every day by looking at all the things you need to do, you can keep a written to do list or you can keep one on your phone, there are even apps that you can use to keep everything organised and that can also send you reminders

Strategic planning – by planning and sticking to a schedule you will be able to easily fit in everything you need, it may be a daunting task at first but once you get into the swing of it, it will become second nature

Where does a virtual assistant come in?

One you have identified areas where you need to save time and have organised your tasks, you will be able to look at what you have created and decide what you wish you do yourself and what you wish to outsource to a virtual assistant.

A virtual assistant can help you with the things that you don’t have time to do, don’t know how to do, or just don’t want to do.

You can find a virtual assistant to do anything from diary management, bookkeeping, to social media scheduling. So, look at your list and find those tasks which you have always wished somebody else can do for you!

Once you have structured your time better and have outsourced some work to a VA you will find that you have a lot of free time, so what should you do?

You can do anything, you can use to time to focus on tasks that will bring in revenue, you can use the time to do/ rediscover something you are passionate about, you can use the time to spend with family and/ or friends, or you can use the time to relax and focus on yourself.
